Hi! I’m Aimee the Wellness Practitioner and Yoga Teacher.
My background is child and family social work and early years education. After leaving college with a Btech diploma in childhood studies I worked in early years settings in Suffolk and Norfolk. I was the manager of a sure start children’s centre nursery before deciding I wanted to take a different direction with my career. After a short sabbatical to travel I took up a job in norfolk children’s services as a family support worker. I worked in the looked after childrens team and absolutely loved it! I decided this was the career for me so after two years I went back to full time study and gained my BA Degree in social work at the University of East Anglia. After graduating I was lucky to step straight into a full time social work post back in the field of Looked After children. During my time as a social worker I worked alongside many different professionals in the caring and therapeutic industry. My continued professional development saw me complete several courses in life story work, therapeutic approaches, substance misuse, adoption and safeguarding. After 5 years as a frontline social worker I took a job in the Fostering service and supported foster carers in their role of caring for looked after children in their home. I was able to provide direct support in therapeutic parenting, supporting children who had experienced trauma and loss. I worked in this field for almost 4 years before leaving to be a full time mum to my two young daughters.
For many years I have practiced yoga and more recently mindfulness meditation, both have been extremely beneficial for my mind and body. I was thrilled at the opportunity to train to become a kids yoga teacher and can’t wait to share it with you!
In my spare time (there’s not much!) I enjoy walking, spending time at the coast with my family, reading a good book and of course practicing my yoga and meditation. I also love horses and although I haven’t ridden in years I’m keen to get back in the saddle!
I have nearly 20 years’ experience working professionally with children and adults. I have a desire to support people make significant positive changes to their lives and this has led to gaining a wealth of lived experiences, which in turn has enabled me to gain valuable insights into the ongoing needs of children, adults and their families, especially at time of crisis.
Serving for many years as a police detective, I gained extensive first-hand experience of working with children and adults who had been sexually abused, trauma, the criminal justice system and court procedures. From this, I gained a great understanding of the barrier’s families face, the frustrations of lengthy investigations, the questions often left unanswered and most importantly the lack of understanding in relation to trauma and how it impacts individuals.
After leaving the police, I spent several years working therapeutically with children who had been sexually abused as well supporting their siblings, and parents/carers. Throughout this time, I witnessed first-hand the lack of support for parents and carers, the lack of guidance on how to support their children through their struggles and shortage of long-term mental health provisions.
I have also spent time working with children who are disengaged from education due to their behaviour medical needs, or other difficulties. I find working with young people who are struggling in life extremely rewarding and is experienced in bringing about positive change by helping them to move forward with learned skills which supports them to build their self-esteem, self-worth and emotional wellbeing.
I have a wealth of experience and training in many areas but has specialised in the following areas:
Sexual Abuse, Trauma Informed Practice, Children’s Mental Health, Adult/Child Safeguarding, Risk Assessing, Resilience and Trauma, Communicating and Building Relationships, Mentoring, Coaching
and Group/Family Working.
My career began in a Children’s Centre in 2009, which ignited my passion for child development and safeguarding, influenced by my immediate family’s involvement in this field. I quickly advanced to a Family Support Worker role, and subsequently to a Senior Family Support Worker, working on the front lines with the most vulnerable families for five years. During this period, I earned a Foundation Degree in Management of Care and a Certificate in Person-Centred Counselling. My commitment to continuous learning has been instrumental in my career and personal growth.
In 2014, I transitioned to the police force, serving as a Case Investigator in the Child Abuse Investigation Team (CAIU) and as a Special Constable, attaining the rank of Special Sergeant for the last two years. After leaving the CAIU, I joined a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) as a Specialised Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA), focusing on supporting individuals under 21 who had experienced sexual abuse and had protected characteristics. During my tenure as a specialist ISVA, I completed a Master’s Degree in Psychology and Law: Child Forensic Studies, along with qualifications in Family Therapy and Trauma.
Despite excelling in my ISVA role, I felt compelled to offer more comprehensive support to victims. In 2021, I founded The Life Skills Mentoring Academy (TLSMA), an organization dedicated to assisting individuals who have experienced various forms of trauma, particularly young people facing significant challenges. My work at TLSMA includes delivering crucial information on Trauma, Psychoeducation, Keeping Safe, County Lines, Mindset, Basic Mental Health, and more.
Supporting young people has always been a life goal of mine, and I find it immensely rewarding to witness their development and growth. I believe we can never know everything and so training and keeping knowledge up to date is really important to me.
Alongside directing TLSMA, I am actively involved with Crimestoppers, serving as the Chair for Norfolk, where I lead a team in efforts to reduce crime rates.
In my spare time, I care for my daughter, Felicity, and our dog, Oakley, a Sprocker/Pointer mix. Visitors to the cabin may encounter Oakley, who enjoys being part of the activities and keeps me on my toes!
Please see my CV which shows the extensive training I have completed.
